Frequently Asked Questions
Check out these FAQ and if you don't see your question here, feel free to schedule a 15-minute consultation to find out more!
What if I don't know what type of therapy I need?
That's okay! It's not uncommon to not know what type of therapy you need, and you don't need to know that to get started. During the initial meeting, you can discuss options, your goals, and what you're looking for. Elizabeth will share her areas of practice and expertise, (you may preview them here), and you'll go from there!
Will my session be confidential?
Therapy is confidential, with one exception: if you're ever at immediate risk of harming yourself or someone else, then you and Elizabeth will discuss how to proceed with a plan for your safety. All sessions are held through Simple Practice, a HIPAA-compliant secure video platform. AI is not used for listening, recording, note-taking, or in any other capacity.
How long and how often are sessions?
Session length can vary between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on your preferences and needs. Frequency typically starts off weekly, and you and Elizabeth will decide what works best for you in terms of needs, goals, timing, and budget for how to continue.
What if I want to stop or pause therapy?
It's always your choice about proceeding with therapy. Elizabeth will make recommendations; however, you decide if and when you're ready to pause or stop. It's best to discuss your thoughts and concerns openly to provide opportunities for planning and saying goodbye!
Can we meet for sessions in person?
At this time, Elizabeth sees clients via telehealth only, for clients who live in Virginia, Kansas, and Washington state.
Can I use my insurance?
Elizabeth is not in-network with any insurance. If you'd like to use your out-of-network benefit, please let Elizabeth know you'd like to receive a monthly superbill (detailed receipt) for submission to your insurance for reimbursement, which varies by plan.
During the 15 minutes, you will meet Elizabeth and briefly share about what you're looking for in therapy. You can decide if it's a good fit for you, and Elizabeth will let you know if your concerns are in the scope of her practice. Next steps and logistics will be discussed, as well as any questions you may have.
What's the purpose of the 15-minute consultation?
Can we meet virtually while I'm on vacation or in another state?
You need to physically be in Virginia, Kansas, or Washington state during virtual sessions. Elizabeth cannot hold sessions with clients who are living and/or visiting outside of these states during session time due to state licensing.
